Your Child found a glowing door beneath an old tree. Beyond it lay a kingdom where the lanterns had lost their light.
The market was quiet, and even the fountain made no sound. Your Child followed a little silver bell into the square.
King Wise showed Your Child an empty lantern at the palace gate. “Our light grows from caring actions, and we have forgotten how to begin.”
A child dropped a basket of apples. Your Child helped gather them, and one tiny spark appeared in the lantern.
The baker sat alone beside unsold bread. Your Child listened to his worries and invited neighbours to visit.
Soon, people sat around a shared table. A second spark shone, but the tallest lantern stayed dark.
Two friends argued over a broken kite. Your Child asked each to tell the story while the other listened.
Together, they tied the kite's frame and made a new tail. A golden line of light climbed the palace wall.
Clouds covered the square just before the festival. People hurried away, and Your Child worried the lights would fade again.
Your Child noticed the palace hall had room for everyone. With the king's permission, the neighbours moved their celebration inside.
A little musician missed a faraway friend. Your Child sat beside the musician without asking for a smile.
“You may feel sad and still belong here,” said Your Child. The tallest lantern suddenly filled with warm light.
Water danced again in the fountain. The kingdom glowed, and its people cheered for their caring visitor.
King Wise gave Your Child a small lantern to remember the day. Its glow reflected the faces of all the helpers.
Your Child waved goodbye and stepped through the glowing door. The familiar tree waited in the evening light.
At home, Your Child made room beside someone who needed company. The little lantern seemed to shine a little brighter.
